Mayra Ruiz-McPherson Named Editor of Loudoun Moms’ Network

Longtime Community Newsletter for Loudoun Moms and Families Now Under New Direction

[ July 10, 2007 ] Lansdowne, Virginia — Marketing strategist Mayra Ruiz-McPherson has been named the new Editor and head-mom for the Loudoun Moms’ Network, a community-based organization formed in 1997 by then-Cascades resident Susan Ferguson.

Ms. Ferguson headed the Network for ten years before passing the torch to Ms. Ruiz-McPherson. She had started the mom’s group when she and her had first moved to Loudoun from Pennsylvania as a way to meet other moms and families. When email’s popularity began to rise, Ms. Ferguson began a grass-roots effort to launch the Network’s monthly e-newsletter. The email newsletter was more of a Microsoft Word document attached to an email which was sent to approximately 280 local moms. “I grew the mailing list from nothing,” says Ms. Ferguson. “It just took off almost overnight.”

After a decade as the head-mom for the local group, Ms. Ferguson determined it was time for new leadership. Several attempts to find a new head-mom who could take over the newsletter resulted in two local moms interested in being part of the transition. One of the two local moms was Mayra Ruiz-McPherson. “Mayra had many fresh ideas and so much energy when we first met about the Network. I knew the group would be in good hands with her.”

Over time, the second mom bowed out resulting in Ms. Ruiz-McPherson’s full inheritance of the Network. “This is an exciting time to lead a wonderful community group forward, ” said Ms. Ruiz-McPherson. “I look forward to growing the Network and expanding its reach to really help local moms and families network and stay connected.”

Ms. Ruiz-McPherson will lead the organization as well as serve as Editor of the organization’s newsletter, which she plans to transform from a Microsoft Word document to a bonafide, e-mail communications campaign with opt-in/opt-out capability, fresh content and regular distribution.
