the better social business blog

So yeah, that’s me to the left back in the hey day … and my little sister, Leany, to my right. Now I’m holding Leany’s hand again but this time, it’s through the social media, digital photography and blogging world …

overview

So I have this little sister named Leany (that’s Leh-ah-nee for those who are curious about how her name is pronounced) who’s not so little anymore actually. I keep forgetting she’s a “woman” LOL :) but that’s just the Big Sister in me. At any rate, Leany as of late has been bitten quite hard by the digital photography bug.

This digital photography bug bite finds Leany:

  • blowing off friends and social events on weekends to dive into endless hours of reading all about digital photography
  • tinkering constantly with her new Canon EOS 50D digital camera
  • shadowing the owner of the only professional photography studio in (her) town to absorb all learning possible
  • making the effort to mingle at local networking gigs for the arts and photography folks
  • starting to get on social networks and trying to tweet on Twitter (but not getting what the hell she’s doing with tweeting as of yet)
  • getting wi-fi installed in home after years of not even having a computer or internet connection of any kind
  • thinking about blogging (what’s that!!??)
  • asking her big sister – that would be moi – for tons of ideas and “how to” advice

why Leany’s web-related efforts matter to me

Well, first and foremost, let’s face it … I love this kid. I’m her Big Sis, after all, so anything that’s she’s into for the most part I’m going to high-five as much as I can.

But in addition to our sharing of DNA, I am very interested in Leany’s entry and immersion into the digital photography and web 2.0 scene because it’s an effort I see many people struggle with daily.

I personally know of many folks of all ages and backgrounds who ask me all kinds of newbie-type questions. My favorite newbie question of all time, btw, has got to be from a super lovely and kind woman in her 50s who called to ask me if her “LinkedIn was in her Twitter” or if her “Twitter was in her LinkedIn” ??? Clearly, this woman was thoroughly confused. And there are many like her who just don’t know where or how to start.

Sooooooo … back to the story at hand …

I really admire anyone, related to me or not, who makes an honest effort to enter the web 2.0 space even if they (a) don’t really know what they are doing and (b) don’t have a full grasp of things but are passionate about learning all they can along the way.

the rise of “Leany’s digital photography adventures” series

Given that I strongly believe my sister’s efforts are applicable and relevant to so many people, I am “gifting” her some space here on my blog so that she can start sharing and blogging about:

  • experiences with digital photography, learning everything from using the camera to editing her photos
  • local networking opportunities as she tries to make connections, learn from the right folks and entrench herself in the digital photography community
  • coming on board the social media train, engaging with folks online and establishing a strong voice and unique presence across social networks

exciting!

I look forward to seeing what my lil’ sis has to say and share as her learning, her immersion into the digital web 2.0 space and her growth with digital photography evolve over time. It will be interesting (and entertaining) to see how she blossoms in the coming weeks and months.

I welcome you to follow Leany’s progress as well :) She’ll be posting soon enough! Let’s stay tuned …
