Mobile marketing anyone?
In last Thursday’s Mobile: The New Wild West breakout session at Frederick County Chamber’s New Media Conference, Jon-Mikel Bailey of WoodStreet.com (shown above while highlighting various examples of mobile sites and applications) provided attendees with a solid overview of today’s mobile marketing climate. Jon did a great job in explaining what the “mobile experience” is and how it impacts digital marketers and web service providers from all industries. The ability to interact with mobile users clearly is infinite in potential.
What struck me as a highly notable mention was Jon’s reference to mobile users as folks who are “on the move.” This should be an obvious detail given the term “mobile marketing” but I had not heard the emphasis of being “on the move” as clearly as I did at #FredNMT3. According to Jon, mobile users are growing at an alarmingly rapid rate and the mobile scene will continue to grow and change with continued high momentum.
Another really helpful aspect of Jon’s presentation was the comparison and contrast of mobile apps vs. mobile sites. This was an excellent “101″ overview that helped to clarify why and how mobile apps and mobile sites differ from each other.
Enter Beth Schillaci of Village Works Communications, a marketing services firm based in Frederick, Maryland. Beth took over the reins from Jon and extended the subject of mobile marketing beyond apps and sites to Quick Response (QR) codes. According to Beth, these QR babies are popping up everywhere including, but not limited to, scavenger hunts, art work and paintings, product labels at retail stores, printed magazines, advertisements and of course business cards. Beth added that QR code usage is even transcending the parameters of marketing and cited a municipality who used QR codes near a construction site to keep the public informed with the new building development process.
Overall this duo shared lots of good info and certainly helped to significantly further my knowledge on the subject of mobile “on the move.” Many thanks to Jon and Beth for sharing relevant information about timely mobile marketing topics at #FredNMT3!
