For those of you in the Washington DC metro area and surrounding suburbs seeking to pitch hyperlocal magazines with editorial possibilities or to place targeted advertising in specific towns or cities in Northern Virginia and Maryland, these two new and hyper-local magazines may be worth your attention:

Arlington Magazine (Northern Virginia)

The first of the two is Arlington Magazine, which will be a bi-monthly focused on Northern Virginia’s Arlington County and is scheduled to debut in late October. Topics covered will include health and fitness, schools and education, community issues, dining, arts and entertainment, trends, beauty, shopping, style, real estate, regional travel, events and activities, as well as articles about the area’s history and people.  The magazine will serve residents in the communities of Arlington, McLean and Falls Church.

Jenny Sullivan is the publication’s editor.  Email editorial@arlingtonmagazine.com with questions, pitches and story ideas.

The website can be found at www.arlingtonmagazine.com.

Frederick Gorilla (Frederick, Maryland)

This new magazine covers politics, lifestyle and business in Frederick, Maryland and has launched in July 2011. The Frederick Gorilla began as most things begin for co-founders Harby Tran and Pattee Brown-through spirited discussion. Tran and Brown are true visionaries who recognize that hyper-local media is the future of publishing. Specifically in Frederick, a hip, edgy, current events magazine is sorely needed to give this adolescent metropolis an outlet for relevant discussions about business, life and politics in Frederick County. The Frederick Gorilla spotlights not only the sophistication that is Frederick, but also the grit, the controversy and the contention that is often glossed over or ignored completely.
