Our History
Our company first began as a “what if” daydream in the mind of our founder as she sat at her desk and spent hours staring at a busy parking lot day in and day out while working as a marketing professional for an organization that did not maximize her many talents, skills or extensive communications expertise.
Today, both our founder and our team are a long ways away from that parking lot! Six successful years beyond later, Ruiz McPherson Communications (RMC) is a growing social technology and digital marketing boutique providing personalized and devoted customer service to a variety of organizations in the arenas of web application development and interactive and social communications in the ever-changing fields of marketing & PR 2.0.
Founder Mayra Ruiz began her marketing practice first as an independent graphic design service in the mid-1990s. Before long, friends and peers encouraged her to enhance her graphic design skill set by learning web design — advice she took to heart and which inspired her to become immersed in the web design arena, taking educational courses, completing certification and sinking into hours of independent study.
By the late 90s, Mayra’s web design practice was in full force. Along the way in working with a handful of clients, she discovered many were also seeking her counsel for marketing campaigns and tasks well beyond web-specific projects. Over time, as a direct result of client needs, she evolved her practice from a web design service to a marketing consulting practice.
In the Fall of 2001, shortly after the devastating events of September 11, an incredible job opportunity landed on Mayra’s lap unexpectedly — a position as Director of Web Communications for a leading, national financial services brand. Realizing the experience in this position would open doors and augment her skill set, Mayra accepted the new role. As a result, her marketing consulting practice was placed on an indefinite hiatus. Mayra continued her tenure, however, as adjunct Web Design & HTML professor at the Corcoran School of Art & Design in Georgetown through 2002.
In 2010, Mayra’s vision of providing robust, practical web 2.0 and real-world digital marketing solutions continued to be realized. With the addition of various talented individuals, the once solo-led practice became a full-fledged digital marketing and social influence services provider servicing Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia-based clients as well as various businesses in surrounding areas throughout the region.
In 2011, Ruiz McPherson Communications broke new ground with the launch of various, more sophisticated web applications for numerous clients, thus re-positioning itself as a “social tech, application development and digital PR” marketing firm. Our company now provides mobile solutions in addition to its web application development capabilities. And out the various marketing services RMC provides, our clients have the highest demands for social strategies, digital PR and search engine optimization. These interactive marketing disciplines continue to be a strong emphasis for the company throughout 2011.
As we look forward to 2012, we see a continued, close alliance with our customers as they seek to further maximize their online presence, interactive marketing and social influence positioning. On the web technologies side of the house, we are excited extend our mobile application capabilities further to meet the rising demand for mobile-readiness and our customers’ needs to provide their end-users with mobile-friendly features, services and experiences.
